Rebrand The Past
“Rebrand The Past: Experiments In~Tuition” an installation, a collaborative performative encounter, and audi-visual adventure partially funded through Advancing The Black Arts Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation.
Relics From The Futuretemporal distortions, and time travel are the focus of ReBrand The Past. This piece is experienced primarily through logs, artifacts, and reports from Mami Commander Svaha Irie, an Antiquity Retrieval Agent for the Bureau of Antiquity Data Alleging Sociopathy Syndrome (BADASS). Around 3010, White Plight swept across the world causing the extinction of all persons considered White. What would happened if all persons considered to be White where suddenly no longer? What kind of society would emerge? What about technology? How would Black people navigate the modern digital divide? The Bureau and the Timestream Authorities speculate that White Plight was the cause of a genetic mutation which tried to correct for an inherent sociopathy that predisposed Whites toemotionally alter reality in their favor. Others believe the Matters Movement successfully developed and deployed a highly targeted biological weapon. The Whites became extinct through sterility or illness. The period immediately following White Plight is called Renewal. Through the creation of alternative technologies and by Memory Transfer Sessions done by trained Egunographers, more is being learned. It has become even more important to understand more about Renewal because pockets of Whites have been discovered and seem to be dangerous. The Bureau have sent agents back to make a determination of whether this should be allowed. Should there be an intervention in the Timestream to prevent White Plight? Should specimens be collected for a Living Genetic Library?
